Comic Writer Robbie Morrison Publishes His First Historical Crime Novel

Looking Into The Grave

Comic writer Robbie Morrison (2000AD, White Death) has just had his first novel announced through Pan MacMillan. Here’s the news from the Bookseller…

Pan Macmillan has signed a two-book deal for a new crime series by Robbie Morrison.

Editor Alex Saunders acquired world English language rights from Jane Gregory at David Higham Associates. The first title, Edge of the Grave, will be published in March 2021.

Edge of the Grave is set in 1930s Glasgow and centres around Inspector James Dreghorn and his partner Archie McDaid as they investigate the murder of a prominent local lawyer. Their investigation leads them into the murkier parts of the city as well as to its exclusive members’ clubs.

Morrison commented: “I look forward to introducing Jimmy Dreghorn and ‘Bonnie’ Archie McDaid as they embark on an investigation that takes them from the razor gangs of the meanest Glasgow streets to the backstabbing upper echelons of big business and high society in pursuit of an evil – born of war and madness – that may scar them forever.”

Saunders added: “From the unforgettable prologue of Edge of the Grave, I was immediately hooked in by Robbie’s remarkable novel set in 1930s Glasgow – a time when the city was engulfed in brutal gangland violence, reminiscent of Birmingham’s notorious ‘Peaky Blinders’ years before.”

Morrison has previously published graphic novels Drowntown (Jonathan Cape) and White Death (Image Comics).
