Even More Unique Guests Heading To The South Coast In May
Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics returns to the south coast on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May, in what is being tipped to be the hottest Comic Con in the UK this year
An impressive Artists Alley of guests, sponsored by Catawiki, will be complemented with incisive panels, exhibitions, displays, workshops, merch, cosplay and interactive fun in the form of VR, robots and gaming and more featuring a ‘Celebration of Female Superheroes’ (Saturday) and ‘A World of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ (Sunday)…
Some of the biggest names in the industry have already been announced including Adam Hughes, Rick Leonardi, Troy Alders, David Michelinie, Stuart Moore, Marguerite Sauvage, Janet K Lee, Roy Richardson, June Brigman, Katie Schenkel and The Etherington Brothers and now we are delighted to add more names to the stellar line up.
P. Craig Russell really has run the gamut in comics! A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in painting, Russell established a name for himself at Marvel on Killraven and Doctor Strange before going on to become one of the pioneers who opened new vistas for this underestimated field with, among other works, adaptations of operas of Mozart (The Magic Flute), Strauss (Salome) and Wagner (The Ring of the Nibelung). Russell is also known for his Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde series as well as his graphic novel adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, Murder Mysteries and American Gods.
Also joining Artists Alley is Beano Cartoonist, Nigel Parkinson. Regular illustrator of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, Parkinson has also drawn most other Beano and Dandy characters at some point for the weekly comic, annuals, summer/winter specials and provided artwork for posters, T-shirts, keyrings and more plus special Beano projects including Stella McCartney Paris Fashion Week Show 2018, The V&A Dundee opening, Isle of Man Post Office Christmas stamps and the NTA awards. He has also drawn Thunderbirds, Grange Hill, Baywatch, Stingray, Ace Ventura Pet Detective and more over his 39-year career.
We are also excited to announce the appearance of original Bond girl, Madeline Smith. With a career that began in modelling, Smith went on to appear in many television series, stage productions, comedy and horror films and was cast as Miss Caruso in the post-opening titles sequence of Live and Let Die, the first James Bond film starring Roger Moore.
Smith’s other credits include Taste the Blood of Dracula, Up Pompeii, The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins, Up the Front, Carry on Matron, Theatre of Blood, The Persuaders, Jason King, The Two Ronnies, Steptoe and Son, The End of The Pier Show and All Creatures Great and Small.
Madeline Smith joins previously announced on screen guests including Brian Wheeler (Star Wars and Harry Potter), Pam Rose (Star Wars, Superman and Batman), David Bulbeck (Labyrinth and Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and FX Artist Gary Pollard who has worked on Red Dwarf and Harry Potter.
