Avengers: Infinity War is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is intended to be the sequel to 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and the nineteenth film installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and features an ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio del Toro, Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Brolin.
The film was announced in October 2014 as Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1. The Russo brothers came onboard to direct in April 2015 and by May, Markus and McFeely signed on to script the film. In July 2016, Marvel shortened the titled to Avengers: Infinity War. Filming began in January 2017, at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, and is expected to shoot back-to-back with a direct sequel until October/November 2017. Additional filming is scheduled to take place in Scotland.
Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to be released on 4 May 2018. An untitled sequel is scheduled to be released on 3 May 2019.
