A Fantastic Weekend Ahead
In what is already one of the most talked about Comic Cons coming to the UK this year, we think this announcement might just take Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics to the next level.
We are delighted to announce that joining the impressive Artists Alley, sponsored by Catawiki, is award-winning illustrator, author and world-renowned authority on faeries and faery lore, Brian Froud…
Froud was the lead concept designer and a puppetry pioneer for the Jim Henson films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. He has collaborated with Terry Jones (Labyrinth and Monty Python), on The Goblins of the Labyrinth, and subsequently on a number of non-Labyrinth related books about fairies and goblins, namely of the “Lady Cottington” series, such as Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book.
He has also worked with American writer Ari Berk on more recent books including Goblins! and The Runes of Elfland and produced art books such as Good Faeries/Bad Faeries. One of his most famous art books,Faeries, produced in collaboration with Alan Lee (Lord of the Rings), was the basis of a 1981 animated feature of the same name. Here, Froud brought the classical world of fairies to life in a new and fresh way, that would go on to influence other artists many years later, including Anime series such as The Record of Lodoss War, which took inspiration from Faeries. Froud’s most recent work has been developing and conceptually designing the 2019 Netflix Dark Crystal prequel TV series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
