Terminally Ill Fan Gets To See Star Wars: The Force Awakens

star-wars-force-awakens-official-poster-620x919Daniel Fleetwood, a terminally ill Star Wars fan suffering from a rare form of cancer, was given a private screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens from director J.J. Abrams.
In recent weeks, the hashtag #ForceForDaniel has started circulating on social media to raise awareness of Daniel’s plight when his prognosis became such that he would not survive until the film’s official opening. Even stars of The Force Awakens such as Mark Hamill and John Boyega shared the hashtag, as well as  Daniel’s story.
Daniel’s wish finally came true this week when director J.J. Abrams authorised a private screening of an unfinished cut of the film. According to a Facebook post from his partner Ashley Fleetwood, Daniel received a call from Abrams notifying him that he would receive the screening, which Disney and Lucasfilm then arranged.
Abrams granted a similar wish for a terminally ill Star Trek fan months ahead of the release of Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013. The 2009 film Fanboys featured a plot where several friends try to steal a copy of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace ahead of its release for a terminally ill friend.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits cinemas on 17 December in the UK.
