The Empire Comes To Kensington
Tripwire’s editor-in-chief Joel Meadows went to see Star Wars: A New Hope live at the Royal Albert Hall…
Seeing a film with a live orchestra is a fairly unique experience. We have seen Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day at the Royal Albert Hall in the past and recently we went to see Star Wars: A New Hope with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Of course, we have seen this film many times before but it is quite something to see it with a full orchestra. The only minor quibble is that of course it showed the special edition and much of the CGI that was introduced back in 1997 has dated quite badly. This is a minor criticism and it’s hard not to feel excited once that initial musical flourish begins to kick everything off.
Seeing a film in such lavish surroundings makes experiencing something familiar feel fresh and new. It does spoil you a little for seeing films any other way as it does feel a little more special with a live orchestra.
For fans of Star Wars: A New Hope, the live experience is quite something else. A truly memorable evening.
