Jedi, Steady, Cut…?
♦ Word has reached us from our friends over at newsarama that Yoda was intended to be part of Star Wars: The Force Awakens…
Even though he died in Return of the Jedi, Yoda almost had a new cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Director J.J. Abrams re-used older recorded Yoda dialogue by Frank Oz during the scene with Rey’s visions, but Oz actually came in and recorded new dialogue — that was never used.
“There was one point where we were actually thinking of having Yoda in the film, and then we decided not to,” the film’s editor Maryann Brandon told Entertainment Tonight. “Frank Oz came in for a day and did a whole bunch of Yoda and he was over the moon to do it — and we were tickled pink!”
The sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII, is currently scheduled for release 15 December 2017.
