George R R Martin Coming To UK For First Time In Five Years In August

The Master Of Westeros Makes A Trip Across The Water

George RR Martin hasn’t been over to the UK in five years and he will be over this August coming to London. Here’s the details from the Bookseller…

George R R Martin is making a UK visit and appearing in a Waterstones event to discuss his latest book, Fire and Blood (HarperCollins).

The event will take place on Thursday 8th August at 7pm at the 1920s building, The Emmanuel Centre in Marsham Street, central London.

Set 300 years before the events in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, Fire and Blood is “the definitive history of the Targaryens, the last remaining dragonlords, in Westeros as told by Archmaester Gyldayn, and “chronicles the conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule through the Dance of the Dragons”, HarperCollins said. It follows “the Targaryen civil war that nearly ended their dynasty forever” and “addresses unanswered questions and sets the scene for what has become one of the greatest fantasy series of all time”. The 736-page novel was published in November last year by HarperCollins imprint Voyager.

Martin last visited the UK in 2014. He has written many novels and novellas, including the volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire, as well as screenplays for television, and feature films. Last month he joked about setting a deadline for the penultimate Game of Thrones book, The Winds of Winter, telling fans if he had not finished the novel by August 2020 then they should “imprison” him in a small cabin until it is done.

Tickets cost £18 general admission or £35 including a pre-signed copy of the book. For more information, visit this website.
