Mark Kermode Reviews Black Panther

African King?

♦ Out on 12 February in the UK and the day after in the US, here’s Mark Kermode reviewing Marvel’s Black Panther

Following Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as King. His sovereignty is challenged by warring factions inside his own borders, as Erik Killmonger (Michael B Jordan) and arms dealer Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) conspire to bring down his reign. T’Challa must become the Black Panther,  working with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman),  Okoye (Danai Gurira) and members of Wakandan special forces unit Dora Milaje to prevent a world war.
