More Comic Talent Coming To The South Coast In May 2020
Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics, the largest event of its kind in the South, returns to Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May 2020 with the best of comics, film, TV and pop culture entertainment for aficionados, fans and families alike with special features for 2020 ‘A Celebration of Female Superheroes’ (Saturday) and ‘A World of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ (Sunday).
Hot on the heels of the first guest announcements earlier this month, Portsmouth Comic Con is delighted to announce the next wave of guests to what is certain will be an impressive Artist Alley line up, sponsored by Catawiki. First up is Eisner Award-Winning and Joe Shuster, GLAAD and Russ Manning Nominated Illustrator, Marguerite Sauvage. After graduating in Law and Communication at Paris University, Marguerite followed her lifetime passion for image to become a freelance Illustrator. Now based in Montreal, she has worked for various clients in the fields of press, advertising and publishing before working in parallel for entertainment and concept design including animation, video games and sequential art as well as cover art for comic publishersDC, Marvel and Image.
Next to be added to the line-up are Atlanta based, Husband and Wife team Roy Richardson and June Brigman. The pair have both enjoyed long careers in comic books and strips which began with June’s co-creation of the Power Pack series for Marvel. Roy co-created the Tomorrow Knights epic series and had a long run on The Flash. Having done the art on the Brenda Starr strip for fifteen years, the duo currently illustrate the Mary Worth strip, Captain Ginger for Ahoy Comics and recently a Marvel 80th Anniversary issue of Power Pack.
And finally in this wave, Portsmouth Comic Con is delighted to announce the return of the creators of the world’s most successful art book of all time on Kickstarter, the UK’s most successful Kickstarter book of any kind ever and the UK’s most successful comic Kickstarter of all time, The Etherington Brothers! The first two volumes of Lorenzo’s How to THINK when you DRAW series have raised over a million dollars on the crowdfunding platform and this super-talented pair have produced comics, art and stories for Disney, Dreamworks, Aardman and BBC, as well as many of the world’s leading publishers, and created numerous comic series.
Alongside the impressive Artists Alley, Portsmouth Comic Con features interesting panels, interactive fun in the form of VR experiences, robots, retro and board gaming plus exhibitions, displays, workshops, a Comic City packed full of merch and collectables plus child and adult cosplay parades hosted on GoGeek Event’s School of Wizards stage.
