They have produced comics, art and stories for Disney, Dreamworks, Aardman, the BBC, as well as many of the world’s leading book publishers.
They are the creators of numerous comic series including Long Gone Don, Von Doogan, Freaky and Fearless and Stranski.
The Etherington bros are passionate about sharing art and writing skills for FREE for EVERYONE online, and their How to THINK when you DRAW and WRITE tutorials are used every week by hundreds of thousands of artists, from absolute beginners, to seasoned professionals at the world’s biggest animation, film and games studios.
Lorenzo chatted to Sketch Wallet about how art is played a part in his life since he was a kid back in March of last year:”I’m very VERY lucky in that my parents did the one most important thing in the world – they let me be myself and find my own path, and helped and encouraged all along the way. I lived in a house full of creativity, where there was no right or wrong way to make things, it was wonderful. I know a lot of people don’t have that support, or access to a creative mentor within their lives, which is a big part of why I started doing my free tutorials.”
In fact, art has been such a part of his life, Lorenzo explained in the same interview: “Drawing is so woven into who I am, that I can’t imagine a life without it. It has been my constant companion, an endless, perpetually fascinating journey of learning and discovery and expression. Childhood and drawing are so cool, because at that age, everybody draws, no-one thinks they aren’t good enough, it’s wonderful, everyone does it. I wish so many people didn’t give up drawing when they become adults – no matter your abilities drawing is a fundamental thing that us humans love to do, and we should all do more of it. I love getting messages from people who have started drawing again after many years away off, because of an idea that inspired them in one of my tutorials, that stuff makes me so happy.”
Robin has a slightly chaotic working life as he revealed in a chat he did with downthetubes back in 2017:”Plan is a strong word. Lorenzo is incredibly disciplined, and can probably break his day down into five minute chunks but my approach is more chaotic. I can hold projects in my head but not on a spreadsheet, so I tend to roll into the office and spend each morning bouncing around between half-finished work. I look after my little boy every afternoon so my working day is pretty short, but he’s a great listener and I use him to critique my efforts. Kid can be brutal.”
At Portsmouth Comic Con 2019 they will be bringing ALL their books, including many sold-out and hard-to-find titles…
