A True Comics Ambassador
Steve Borock has been a supporter of the hobby for many years and he has kindly lent his support to this year’s Tripwire Awards…
Founder, President, Head Grader/Finalizer
For many years, Steve Borock has been well known and respected in our hobby, whether it was as the key figure in introducing third-party certification to the comic book hobby, as one of the top restoration detection experts in our field, as a Senior Advisor to the major comic book price guides and grading guides, as the Senior Consignment Director for the hobby’s largest Auction House Heritage Auctions, or his passion as a member of the Board of Directors for the Hero Initiative (a not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need).
Steve was hired by Comics Guaranty Corporation (CGC) as its Primary Grader and Restoration Detection Expert when the firm started up in 1999 and subsequently established, with the help of Mark Haspel, the grading standards used for third party grading. Standards used by most hobbyists today. During his tenure there his reputation for fairness, honesty, and impartiality was a key component in acceptance of comic book certification among the community of collectors and dealers.
In 2009, Steve became the Senior Consignment Director for Heritage Auctions, the world’s 3rd largest auction house. During his time with Heritage, Steve arranged the sale of multi-million dollar collections including the Savannah collection, the Don & Maggie Thompson collection, the Shamus Modern Masterworks collection, as well as heritage competitor Doug Schmell’s personal collection. Steve was also instrumental in bringing in a major portion of their world record breaking ten million dollar comic and comic art auction in 2012.
Steve is honoured by the fact that he has been called by many a “Comic Book Ambassador” for our hobby, and is excited he started CBCS, a third-party grading and certification service that is hobby-friendly, independent, and transparent for the collecting community he loves so much.
Steve Borock has kindly contributed to help out the Tripwire Awards 2019, a contribution he would like dedicated to The Hero Initiative.
