Peggy and Sousa: More Than Just Friends?
♦Our friends over at IGN have news about Agent Carter Season 2, which just kicked off this week in the US
A lot has changed in the time between Marvel’s Agent Carter: Season 1 and Season 2, not the least of which is the relationship between Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj).
It becomes clear early on that the romantic tension between Sousa and Carter ultimately went nowhere during the time jump between seasons — though Peggy finds that out the hard way when she arrives in Los Angeles to learn Sousa has found himself a new lady.

“It seems like Daniel’s gotten the vibe that nothing’s going to happen,” Gjokaj told IGN at ABC’s winter 2016 Television Critics Association press tour party. “Where you find him, he’s kind of given up, and he’s decided he’s going to move on with his life.” Just because Sousa has moved on with his professional life and love life doesn’t mean that the reappearance of Peggy won’t trigger all those old feelings he had for her. Any potential relationship is made more difficult by the fact Peggy will have a total of three love interests in Season 2, including Reggie Austin’s Jason Wilkes. “It’s going to make it complicated, because this season is going to be about her coming out and helping him solve a case in LA. So I think what they play with in the second season is a bit of this thing he thought he was putting behind him; now it’s right in front of him every single time, and they have such a good vibe, and they work so well together,” Gjokaj said. “The whole season’s going to be ‘will they, won’t they.’ I don’t want to give anything away, but he’s been trying to move on. He’s trying to get over her, but it’s not working so well.”
Gjokaj is one of several cast members who moved with Agent Carter from its New York Season 1 setting to Los Angeles in Season 2. The series shoots in Los Angeles, and he spoke about what it was like getting to easily film scenes on location, like the big showdown at the Griffith Observatory.
“It helps you as an actor to actually be in a location that’s real and built in the ’40s, some beautiful art deco architecture. It just puts you right in it,” he said. “There are cars, there are people walking around in the background with the ’40s costumes. This show more than any other I’ve ever been in, it does all the work for you. You memorize your lines, you get dropped into set, and it’s unbelievable. It does all the work right there for you.”
Though the location has changed in Season 2, it’s clear watching the two-hour premiere that the cast and creators are having just as much fun making Agent Carter as they did in year one. Gjokaj feels that the show has fallen into a groove, and shared what he is most excited about in Season 2.
James Darcy also commented on the new season at IGN: “I think this season we got to have our cake and eat it too,” he said. “Everything that happens in LA in the ’40s, the costumes, the wardrobe, the cars, the glamour, it’s all happening. So you’ve still got Peggy, she’s still kicking ass, she’s still looking for bad guys, but it’s really cool the way they just picked the whole thing up and went to a completely new city, completely new vibe, and that gave us a whole different thing to play with.”
