Tripwire Talks: Portsmouth Comic Con 2018
♦Here is the latest episode of Trip Through The Wires with Editor-in-chief Joel Meadows and senior editor Andrew Colman discussing last month’s Portsmouth Comic Con which took place 5 and 6 May and getting started on next year’s event, building on the success of this year’s show…
Portsmouth Comic Con was one of the biggest gathering of comics and genre talent the south coast had ever seen. Walter and Louise Simonson haven’t been over here in 10 years while Dave Dorman has never been over here before. The rest of the guests include Frank Quitely, Gene Ha, Tommy Lee Edwards, Shawn Martinbrough, Cully Hamner, Emi Lenox, Star Wars supervising art director Kevin Jenkins, Doctor Who’s Gary Pollard, Chris Weston, Rob Williams, Philip Bond, David Michael Beck and many more. The publishers will be represented too with Image’s Eric Stephenson, IDW’s Dirk Wood and Shelly Bond plus Dark Horse’s Randy Stradley.
There will also be a virtual reality zone, a zone with classic video games and a number of exhibitions celebrating Superman’s 80th birthday, the art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the work of superstar comic artist Alex Ross. There will also be live prosthetic demonstrations, Daleks and more.
There was something for everyone interested in comics, film, TV and genre at the show. Plans are already afoot for its second year.
