Illustrating A Point: Rian Hughes illustrators talk

On Tuesday, graphic designer and illustrator Rian Hughes gave a talk at the House of Illustration in King’s Cross, around the corner from Central St Martin’s Art College about the illustrators of the 1950s and 1960s. It was hooked on the current exhibition of the work of US commercial illustrator Mac Conner but Hughes’s slide show included the work of other talents like Coby Whitmore and Andy Virgil and he also discussed British illustrators like Eric Earnshaw. The venue is a relatively new one and the talk did shed light on the world of the illustrator in the US and the UK in the 1950s and 1960s. The Conner pieces looked amazing in the exhibition too and it’s great that London has a space dedicated to celebrating the art of the illustrator. We’re pretty sure that while this is the first event we’ve been to there, it won’t be the last. Thoroughly recommended…
