Lakes International Comics Art Festival

Celebrating Comics in the Northwest

2015 saw the third Lakes International Comics Art Festival and Tripwire has been attending it since it started in 2013. Only three years in and the festival is shaping up to be the best of its kind in the northwest. We were set up there as Tripwire but we didn’t get to see many panels at the show but a guest list that included the likes of Darwyn Cooke (New Frontier, Parker), Seth (Palookaville) and Stuart and Kathryn Immonen (Ultimate X-Men, Nextwave and the forthcoming Empress), Simpsons and Futurama artist Bill Morrison plus a range of top British talent like The Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell, artist on The Walking Dead Charlie Adlard and Criminal artist and co-creator Sean Phillips made it a show that can compete with the best US show. Its approach has always been more of a festival than a comic convention and this year, like the two previous ones, felt like a true celebration of its art. One of its patrons, Bryan Talbot, a unique ambassador for the form, was also in attendance with his wife, the award-winning Mary Talbot. Many panels were compered by Orbital’s Chris Thompson, now an old hand at doing this. Next year’s dates have already been announced so obviously LICAF is now a regular fixture in the UK cultural calendar. So here’s a selection of photos taken by Tripwire editor-in-chief from the show…
